This blog is intended to discuss what you really want out of changing the way that you eat. I am going to pose some serious questions to you and the best thing you can do is be true with oneself and own your answer. If you do this, it will be the easiest way to finding the proper meal plan for yourself and achieving what it is that you want to achieve.
First, lets discuss all the reasons that we (myself included), chose to begin a “new” journey in our nutritional lives: “I cheated too much over the holidays and now it is time to get the body I’ve always wanted; I want to be in better shape for an upcoming competition, I want that summer body I always dreamed of, I want to be more attractive, I want to start hitting PR’s again, I want to lose weight ”, the list goes on and on. What is the problem with these? Well the problem is what happens when you finally get there?! And an even better question is, what are you willing to do to make it there? These are the types of reasons that lead to fad diets, unhealthy habits, and fading results/achievements. That is because they are not built for longevity!
Nutrition and diet is a lifelong commitment! Instead of these reasons commit to living a healthier life that starts with nutrition and all of these goals and more can be reached. When health is your utmost priority, you are in it for the long haul. You are in it for all the right reasons; you want to feel better inside and out, you want to have less pain, more energy, get sick less, workout harder and longer, and learn about your greatly unique body along the way.
Now making this decision is going to require you to be honest with yourself like I said we were going to have to do earlier: Are you willing to start having more vegetables and fresh produce with your meals? This means dominating half of your plate with vegetables, having to buy, prepare, and cook them with your meals. Getting more micronutrients through food and not synthesized vitamins. If not, then don’t worry, go on a low carb diet for a few months and watch as your energy levels deplete but you get all the fat loss you always wanted. Are you willing to go without “cheating” on your diet? With things like pizza on Fridays, or beers and wings on Saturdays with the boys? Yes there is a place for moderation, and I am all for it, but only once you have done the work, and felt what there is to truly be gained from focusing on whole food, cellular nutrition for weeks uninterrupted.
Finally, are you willing to take action and stay committed? Time and time again, setbacks will happen: you go on vacation, your mom makes the best birthday cake ever, a friend tells you that your diet is no fun (this one is my favorite) , or it is becoming too expensive. Tell yourself, screw that! you are not gonna suffer from a decision that you make 3, 4, 5 times everyday! Instead you are going to turn that decision into an advantage, eat better with every choice, and tell that guy who said your diet is no fun that, “food isn’t supposed to be fun, its fuel!” Then watch as your workouts, body, mood, and overall health change for the better with each and every day. You can hit those short term goals from above, and then set new and even better one’s because you are not just eating healthy for a few weeks, months, or years; you are eating healthy for the longevity of a lifetime.
